fakeMOM CERBERUS:
IS THE LIGHT OF LIFE CAVE
REALLY THE GATE TO HELL....?
One of the more deliciously twisty plot-reveal-possibilities in the series finale may be that the Allison Janney Mother of Light/Sophia character in 6.15 was NOT the 
lightside guardian of the LOL she pretended to be.... What if.... What if.... As per the Third Heaven wikipedia excerpt below,1 Jacob and BIB's (Boy In Black's) fakeMOM really was SATAN transformed "into an angel of light".... driven to keep the boys there on the island less out of love (deceiver!) and more out of a strong desire to recruit candidates to serve as the next CERBERUS guardian/protector of the GATE TO HELL....! Is there a true ABYSS at the bottom of the Sourcestream, within the Sheol Cave? And does this abyss lead straight to Hell.... down to a flaming, smoldering Lake of Fire GEHENNA?
Is that where fakeMOM's soul went, after she was skewered by MIB? Hmmm.... How satisfyingly twisty it would indeed be, were we to learn that by sending 
MIB's body upstream, into the cave and down into the abyss, Jacob provided just the right LOOPHOLE for Satan, the Evil One, to reappear outside the Gehennic abyss, this time as a magnetohydrodynamically-charged-and-propelled plasmic ion cloud-cum SMOKEY, where previously this dark soul was housed in Allison Janney's fakeMOM character....! This type of O. Henryesque twisty reveal could be in the offing if Darlton and company later disclose to us that the LOL Sourcestream really was ushering forth from the GATE TO HELL... And that Jacob and all subsequent Island Protectors of the supposed Light of Life were unwittingly 'played' into playing the CERBERUS role on the island....
You know, the more I think about it.... fakeMOM really was playing up to BIB and his 'specialness' in 6.15, including MIB's proclivity for lying.... Sounds like a strong darkside candidate for someone to hand the mantle of CERBERUS over to.... And how interesting it is that now the CERBERUS is showing its true colors via that pronounced clunking, metallic sound whenever SMOKEY's on the horizon, heading your way....!
If some variation on this O. Henryesque set of plot twists is revealed to us in the series finale, look for Jack and others to gain a growing awareness of the truly Hellish, darkside nature of the island.... Jack's task would then, accordingly, shift from: (1) assuming the mantle of Island Protector (all hail the new Cerberus!) to (2) finding a way to fully and finally sealing the deal through 'corking' the Hellish evil bottleverse once and for all.... Will this be the set-up for the final scene of the series, showing us how Jack and the others permanently 'cork' the evil bottleverse through nuking the island, sending Hell to a watery Cthuhlu/R'lyehic grave, sinking slowly and smolderingly to the bottom of the ocean....? 2

And yes, SMOKEY's expressed desire to return home fits right in with the above interpretation, as he would love to be unchained from his island imprisonment, roaming wildly and freely on the mainlands of our everyday lives, enacting his dark preordained role in an eschatological epilogue, as per my 5/11/10 Across The Sea posting....
