KARMIC TEMPORAL DIASPORA:
SCENES FROM THE FINAL LOST EPISODE?
Lost producers/writers delight in tantalizing us with pieces of the overall puzzle, ranging from character names to hatch film clips, and beyond. And we all delight in periodically taking a step back and searching the montage of disclosed pieces for clues to the broader, deeper gestalt that invariably will be revealed in the final Lost episodes.
One intriguing possibility is that, despite the obvious and compelling importance of the Lost characters as we know them-- as passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 stranded on the island-- the real backstory is a 'Minkowskian' revelation that these 'souls' have for ages been 'karmically' recurring throughout time with some, or perhaps all, of the passengers occupying well-known historical personas.
So no, they are not dead, but are instead being cycled and recycled through a karmic 'existential singularity' which enables souls to shift life-paths and times, in Minkowskian fashion, leveraging the island's unique electromagnetic properties, and naturally-occurring wormholes appearing with regularity across time, contained through the Casimir Effect....
In short, what we have been observing to date is an island functioning as a 'karmic waystation,' as souls cycle in and through a myriad of life/time/paths.1 The waystation also serves as a place of 'higher' learning through leveraging weird Mind-Energy-Matter relations, a place for learning through interaction, working through problems, and finding/generating/resolving a new self, prior to reentry into a new worldly/'mainland' lifepath of mundane temporal existence (i.e., the island is Heuristic!)
So what deep gestalt twist might we expect to see in the final Lost episode? As per the above remarks, I would not be surprised to find that the 'lives' of the Flight 815 passengers that we have observed throughout the series are but a ripple in the cosmic pool of infinite(?) karmic soul-recycling, enabled by that 'magic box' karmic waystation known as the island. (Hmmmm... Shades of the 'War Without End' storyline in Babylon 5, with human souls cycled into Minbari bodies....)
Will the final episode show a 'karmic temporal diaspora' wherein the Heuristically recharged Flight 815 passengers/souls (and Other island inhabitants) cycle back into other 'mainland' life/time/paths, in a Minkowskian manner?
Wouldn't it be neat in the final episode to see....
* Amelia Earhart and her navigator shown flying over the Pacific Ocean, only to experience strange radiowave interference and be pulled toward, and crash on, the island. Is it Amelia and her navigator whose dead bodies lie decaying and decrepit in the cave? And is the living Amelia/soul, within an EM/Casimir-rejuvenated body, undergoing heuristic learning experiences prior to cycling back into the 'mainland' of a more mundane Earthly spatiotemporal existence?
* Next, a flash-forward to the 'present' era on the island. We see the Flight 815 passengers and Other key island inhabitants and then witness a blinding pulse, causing them to vanish before our eyes, cycling back in a Minkowskian manner, into various mundane 'mainland' life/time/path existences. Here's where it really gets interesting, as they cycle across space and time, with some moving sideways (across space, in time), landing elsewhere in the present time of the show, and other characters moving forward or backward across time, landing elsewhere and elsewhen....
* Now admit it, wouldn't it be funny if that 'ol smarmy-with-a-touch-of-southern-genteel charm SAWYER found himself cycled in Quantum-Leap-like fashion into Samuel Clemens, rocking in his chair on a porch, hurling nicknames, one-liners, and pithy platitudes at passersby? "Hey, there, Freckles!" as he greets Becky Thatcher.... Sawyer meets Mark Twain? Now wouldn't that be neat to see Sawyer all gussied up in Samuel Clemens-cum-Colonel Sanders attire?!
* Hmmmm.... What historical persona might Kate cycle into? Hurley? Sayid? Etc....
* And haven't we all wondered when/if JACK-- the son of a Christian Shephard-- will be revealed as the Messiah, in a past life? Or maybe it will turn out to be Christian himself, shown as rising from the tomb that was the casket in the belly of the plane....
* Another likely candidate for a Lost character who may in the final episode be shown to cycle back through space-time into the Messiah, in a flashes/Desmond-like manner, is John LOCKE. Think about it. Immaculate birth-- no father-- at least based on what his mum has said. Was shot for dead by Ben, and 'rose' from the mass-DHARMAN grave. Was able to see the ethereal JACOB-- Is Jacob the functional equivalent of the HOLY GHOST? And the island the functional equivalent of GOD (and the Mind of GAIA, and other meta-level-incarnates?)
* How about this for a closing shot in the final episode.... Flashes of light, then we see a dirty, dingy criminal hanging on a cross, talking to someone... Then the camera pans slowly around to the front, and we see in the wider shot.... LOCKE hanging on the cross, with crown of thorns, blood, and all.... Locke, of all people, knows that sometimes the island (God) requires a sacrifice.... Then Locke-cycled-into-the-Messiah eaks out a coarse whisper... "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do...."
Fade to the final shot (wish we had Slim Pickens to ride the bomb for this one), as a bomb hatch door opens and a thermonuclear device is dropped on the island.... One final, blinding flash of light.... The screen is filled with loud static.... And the final credits roll....

ENDNOTE:
1 No, this is NOT the same as purgatory, as what I am proposing here does NOT involve an after-death purification, prior to entry into heaven or hell. Instead, my idea of a karmic waystation connects the notion of Samsara-- the cycle of reincarnation or rebirth-- with the strange Minkowskian space-time portal periodically opened via Casimir-Effect-contained wormholes, in effect, construing the island not as a purgatory, but rather as a physics-grounded, Minkowskian Samsara generator.
